Ipoh; a place i took my first step,
Ipoh; a platform i took my first fall,
Ipoh heard me utter my first "mum-mum",
Ipoh witnessed my first punishment,
Ipoh witnessed my first obsession,
Ipoh saw me through puberty,
Ipoh documented my first failure, my first achievement,
Ipoh a place my parents decided to build their home,
Ipoh houses my home.
Ipoh guided me through my first 18 years of life,
Ipoh is where my history starts,
Ipoh, a small town I call home.
"Mum-Mum" was my very first word. My parents were thrilled, thinking i was calling out to my mom. Unfortunately and sadly they were wrong. This toddler was calling "mum-mum" whilst frantically gesturing towards food. I guess this is what Ipoh does to your kids. It is all about food and nothing but it.
I was hopping across the world wide web and stumbled upon this blog; Motormouth From Ipoh- A Malaysian Food Blog and nostalgic memories and emotions came flooding in. I miss Ipoh. I miss what Ipoh has to offer. It is not how she gastronomically satisfies me, but the implications and significance it comes with. To me, they are not just mere delicious mouth-watering substances that one consumes. They are what i grew up with. They were there when i had a heart warming dinner with my family. They were there when i shared a good laugh with my friends. They are the ones that brings US together.
Ipoh, a haven close to my heart.
